The song is from the soon-to-be released “Hyim and the Fat Foakland Orchestra” CD, which includes some of your other favorite tunes, such as: Sunny Day, Speaking In Tongues, Mambo For Money For My D.O.G., and the ballad I Lay My Heart.

For now though, have a taste of the vibe with this uplifting celebration of life birthday song. It is for you to share with others.

The story of the song goes like this:
I was invited to go into an elementary school in Vallejo to write a song with a 5th grade class. I had two hours to give a workshop and get the young folks writing. My workshop was on “Life, Beauty, and Art” and we talked about how being alive is an opportunity to appreciate beauty and to bring beauty into the world through art. We had all these ideas from the discussion on the eraser board, and then we split up the students into 3 sections. Each section was to write a verse for the birthday song. One verse was in English, one in Spanish, and one verse an English rap. The skeleton for the current birthday song was born.

Now, because of legal reasons, the students’ version is not the one on-line. I rewrote the words so as not to offend any school administration or parents due to copyright issues. So the lyrics are mine, but are inspired by my young 10 and 11 year old homies of Vallejo (when I say Valle, you say HO!!!)
