BIO

SHORT BIO

With a voice compared to Ed Sheeran or a young Sting, a sound akin to a new-school Peter Gabriel, Beck, Manu Chao and Michael Franti, and a look compared to Harry Connick Jr., Oakland, California raised HYIM clearly brings the uplifting vibes to the masses through recordings and his epic live shows.  When you see him perform, this world traveled singer-songwriter makes mind-blowing live loops on percussion instruments and his guitar.  Without a doubt, it is the piano, his original passion, and for which Yamaha sponsored the artist, that is the foundation of this artist’s gift.  HYIM is a healer through and through, as he is a licensed therapist (MFT – Marriage and Family Therapist).  He has worked with youth in numerous settings (juvenile hall, foster care, addiction, etc).  When not healing others behind the scenes or during a live show, HYIM is a producer, activist and continues to write and record his music to share with the world.

HYIM’s pop-world-fusion music is the vehicle for his message – peace, joy, evolve. HYIM’s father, who started teaching HYIM piano at the age of three, was shot and killed when HYIM was only ten years old.  It is this tragic moment that inspired HYIM, to create such powerful, visionary music.  Oakland California raised, HYIM’s diverse musical influences include Bob Marley, Peter Gabriel, Chopin, Bob Dylan, Eddie Palmieri, Chris Martin/Coldplay and of course, his Dad. When you see him perform, this world-traveled singer-songwriter makes mind-blowing live loops on percussion instruments and his guitar.  Without a doubt, it is the piano, his original passion and for which Yamaha sponsored HYIM, that is the foundation of this artist’s gift.   With a voice compared to Ed Sheeran or a young Sting, a sound akin to a new-school Peter Gabriel, Beck, Manu Chao and Michael Franti, and a look compared to Harry Connick Jr., HYIM clearly brings the uplifting vibes to the masses through recordings and his epic live shows.  HYIM is a healer through and through, as he is a licensed therapist (MFT – Marriage and Family Therapist).  He holds both a Masters in Psychology and has worked with youth in numerous settings (juvenile hall, foster care, addiction, etc) and is certified as a Reiki practitioner doing body and energy work on those in need.  When not healing others behind the scenes or during a live show, HYIM is a producer, activist and continues to write and record his music to share with the world.

*Hyim—Hebrew for “life”— creates a pendulum of styles and feelings, swinging between sunny mento rhythms, spiraling Cuban son, urgent hip-hop manifestos, and pensive balladry—quite a sweeping achievement! Hyim’s music holds a rare gravity…and it is clear that he possesses a grand vision.  Relix Magazine

*Hyim is a formidable talent…a hippie child who grew up hip-hop, his music smoothly assimilates such disparate sources as Jamaican reggae, Cuban son, Brazilian rhythms, Mediterranean beats and urban DJ techniques. Spellbinding.  Joel Selvin, SF Chronicle
